Reading List Update

Rating scale:
5 -- On the top two tiers of my favorites list.
4 -- Very good.
3 -- Good, maybe not my style.
2 -- Not impressive.
1 -- Execrable.

Fairly Recently Read:
* The City and the City (4), China MiƩville, on [livejournal.com profile] louderandlouder's recommendation. Murder in a city that comprises two overlapping but separate countries.
* Loveless, vol. 8 (4), Yun Kouga: Finally Ritsuka and Seimei meet! Good angst.
* The Child Thief (2.5), Brom: Gritty retelling of Peter Pan is a great concept muffed in the execution (but with pretty pictures).
* The Innkeeper's Song (4.5), Peter S. Beagle: Two former students of an old wizard come together to help him in his time of need.
* "Lal and Soukyan," from Giant Bones (4.5), Peter S. Beagle: The last adventure (or so we're told) of Lal and Soukyan from The Innkeeper's Song. Great characterization.
* Mirage of Blaze 17.20-22 (ratings: 2, 5, and 3.5 respectively): Chiaki researches, Takaya angsts, and Yuzuru and Irobe hang with the Catholics.

[livejournal.com profile] whitebird, in the course of taking me out to an excellent dinner (thank you!), suggested that I post a reading list, so here goes. I will repost with updates periodically. I'll include blurbs, ratings for recently read works, and links to reviews/meta where applicable. Suggested reading always welcome!
