Kowloon Nights is a one-volume, stand alone Blood+ manga. It is the BL of Blood+ manga, right down to the art, which is much more typical BL-ish than typical Blood+. It's a quick and fairly enjoyable read without much substance, but it lends some added detail to the series. The only regular Blood+ character to appear is Hagi.
Spoilers follow:
This story takes place in 1993 in Hong Kong (as the UK prepares to transfer Hong Kong to China). Saya is currently asleep and Hagi does not know where she is, having fled her in a panic during the Vietnam incident. He is feeling guilty about his role is mistakenly waking her early (causing her to go berserk) and guilty about fleeing, and he's looking for her.
He crosses paths with a half-Japanese detective, Nishi, who is investigating a series of bizarre murders, which, of course, are committed by chiropterans. Nishi is also grieving the death of his younger brother in the Gulf War. We are told that Hagi reminds him of his younger brother. Howsoever, there is clearly some sort of attraction/intrigue at least on Nishi's side, and while it never gets much developed, it's cute. Ultimately, these two work together to foil chiropterans.
We learn how Hagi feeds (something not addressed in the anime), but it should come as no surprise that he pretty much feeds like a vampire.
The art annoyed me, mainly because Hagi looks nothing like Hagi, and it's distracting. Otherwise it's not bad.
Overall, it's a good short story. I just wish it had had a little more substance/length.
