anghraine: artist's rendition of faramir; text: i would not take this thing if it lay by the highway (faramir)

I'm here from asexual_fandom, and this is -- pretty much how I've always read Tolkien, so I'm glad to see somebody else too! It's like everyone is expected to be essentially demi, and most of them actually are. (To the point that the Dúnedain, at least, struggle just to keep their numbers up.) There seems to be a stigma to anything else; pretty much everyone from the narrator on down is decidedly ambivalent about Finwë marrying Indis, even though his first wife is did, he and Indis are happy, and their descendants are (mostly) amazing.

I don't have a copy of LACE on hand, but wasn't there even something about how the Eldar (and presumably the perpetually underpopulated Númenóreans with them) had a part of their lives set apart for sex, and then just ... lost interest and went on to other things? I thought he had an interesting, ace-ish way of putting it, but I don't remember exactly.

Also: even going with the demi!everyone, I think Tar-Aldarion (as he appears in the Mariner's Wife) is probably the one who would provide richest material for ace manifesto-ing.
