I'm still gathering recommendations for favorite non-Eurocentric stories (short, long, written, video...) for my next author newsletter. Comment with your recs!

Mexican Gothic deserves every bit of praise it has gotten. Garcia knows, loves, and works with Gothic conventions to craft a new, vibrant tale. Gods of Jade and Shadow was superb. I haven't read anything else by her yet, but there's a satisfactory list to work through.

I can't say Victor LaValle is a favorite of mine but that is more due to genre than skill. I suspect The Changeling of being brilliant.

The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo was a book before it was a Netflix show, and it is a good one. I plan to read The Night Tiger.

Peter, the main and POV character in the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch is the son of a white British jazz musician and a Fula mother from Sierra Leone. London is portrayed as multicultural.
