I think it's also worth pondering that the whole movie is in Arthur's POV, and he's an unreliable narrator, so one could posit that Thomas is not that bad, or Alfred that callous, etc. The "truth," as ever, may lurk somewhere in the middle. (Weirdly blank Bruce was actually one of the oddest things for me.) :-)
