Happy Biblo and Frodo's Birthday!

Happy Bilbo and Frodo's birthday! I am clinging on by a thread to even remembering that it is today, and the day will come when I am so overwhelmed by the rushing succession of things past my life, like an elf watching the seasons fly by as a shift in colors, that it will go by me completely, but it hasn't happened yet.

I wish I had time to think of Middle-earth. I wish I had time to (re)read much more of the lore of Middle-earth, wish I could get out for a walk in a nice place that feels like Middle-earth, but for now, this remembrance is what I've got.

Let's see, in the great crossover 'verse in my mind, Frodo ought to be 89 today if I have it right. Imagine.

I remembered it this year, perhaps because we were just in Hobbiton over the summer. We all wanted to go, but I think were surprised by how moving it was to actually stroll under the party tree and have dinner in the Green Dragon. Both Jason and I were brought to tears by the chance to wander in Middle-Earth for a time.

What a great experience! It sounds emotionally a little like my Mirage of Blaze pilgrimage to Samegao Castle in Japan. I wonder if I'd have a similar response to an NZ LotR tour. My relationship with the story is so embedded in the books that I'm not all that close to the movies. But being there has got to be something!
