My Final Discontent (I promise): Psychological Discontinuity
(Crossposted at Asphodel's Haven)
Here's my final discontent. The end of the Shouwa prequel arc—despite some really amazing and wonderful stuff—breaks the psychological continuity of the larger Mirage series. It develops Kagetora, in particular, too fast and loses the thread of where his psyche needs to be in this moment in order for his developmental trajectory to work. It also lets Naoe off too easily, which harms both their arcs.( Spoilers )
