30 Days of Fan Fiction Meme, Day 10
Jul. 8th, 2011 09:19 pm10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
I usually write pairings I feel inspired to write and comparatively comfortable in being able to write (more or less at my average quality level anyway). I've been most out of my comfort zone with fic challenges, but I usually get asked to do gen. I did get asked to do Scorpius/Braca, which I did in a very light way, and it was fun; I like them as a pairing anyway.
Actually, the farthest outside my comfort zone I've ever been was almost certainly Blake/Avon, and I don't think I wrote it well. The story's not too bad, but it should have been gen; the slash elements are not intrinsic and read to me as rather kitschy. Ditto, really, my pairing L/Light and my Death Note/Mirage of Blaze crossover. L and Light find each other very exciting, but they do not want to be in bed together, and putting them there was always a bit of stretch.
