I think it's also one of those personal choice moments. No one's perfect but I feel like some are more clearly horrible than others (just a somewhat bad example off the top of my head, a racist who keeps their racism in their head and hasn't acted in accordance with those beliefs vs. a racist who has actually acted in accordance with those beliefs).
So it's up to the consumer to decide what level of problematic they're comfortable with. And that's going to be affected by all sorts of things. For example, I've come to terms with liking Lovecraft's work because he's dead and from my understanding, his estate doesn't get any money from his stuff because copyright things. But I wouldn't feel the same if he were alive. And some people just Cannot with him and 100% refuse to read his stories, even if he's dead.
