I want two Gungrave vids:

1) Brandon to Harry, using Sarah McLachlan's "Path of Thorns (Terms of Endearment)"
2) Harry to Brandon, using Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know"

Sadly, I cannot vid, so I'm just going to discuss it instead. And I'm going to quote full lyrics (repetition of choruses omitted) with no copyright infringement intended. I mean it as an aid to an analysis of a narrative, which I would like to think is fair use...

1) "Path of Thorns"

This is actually very straightforward as a Brandon-to-Harry song set shortly before Harry kills him. I don't feel much need to explicate it, except for the "you never tried" part because Harry is nothing if not an inveterate trier. But I guess it depends on what he's trying to do. If the trying refers to trying to uphold the spirit of Big Daddy's Millennion, for example, I could see Brandon thinking that Harry never really tried.

I knew you wanted to tell me
In your voice there was something wrong
But if you would turn your face away from me
You cannot tell me you're so strong
Just let me ask of you one small thing
As we have shared so many tears
With fervor our dreams we planned a whole life long
Now are scattered on the wind...

Chorus
In the terms of endearment
In the terms of the life that you love
In the terms of the years that pass you by
In the terms of the reasons why

Through the years I've grown to love you
Though your commitment to most would offend
But I stuck by you holding on with my foolish pride
Waiting for you to give in...
You never really tried or so it seems
I've had more than myself to blame
I've had enough of trying everything
And this time it is the end...

There's no more coming back this way
The path is overgrown and strewn with thorns
They've torn the life-blood from your naked eyes
Cast aside to be forlorn...

Funny, how it seems that all I've tried to do
Seemed to make no difference to you at all...

Meanwhile, in much the same time frame, Harry is on a different page...

2) "You Oughta Know"

No, seriously. The triangle here is Harry, Brandon, and Big Daddy. Of course, you have to make all the sex metaphorical, but if you can do that and stifle any initial giggles, this is precisely how Harry is feeling about Brandon right as he's gearing up to kill him. He feels fucked. He wouldn't put it that way, even to himself, but it's how he feels. The tragedy is that he's got hold of the wrong end of the stick and it will take him fourteen years/the rest of his life to figure it out.

I want you to know, that I'm happy for you
I wish nothing but the best for you both
An older version of me
Is she perverted like me
Would she go down on you in a theater
Does she speak eloquently
And would she have your baby
I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother

'cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able
To make it enough for you to be open wide, no
And every time you speak her name
Does she know how you told me you'd hold me
Until you died, till you died
But you're still alive

Chorus:
And I'm here to remind you
Of the mess you left when you went away
It's not fair to deny me
Of the cross I bear that you gave to me
You, you, you oughta know

You seem very well, things look peaceful
I'm not quite as well, I thought you should know
Did you forget about me, Mr. Duplicity
I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner
It was a slap in the face how quickly I was replaced
Are you thinking of me when you fuck her?

'cause the joke that you laid on the bed that was me
And I'm not gonna fade
As soon as you close your eyes, and you know it
And every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back
I hope you feel it...well can you feel it?

There's ample material for vidding both these songs to Gungrave, and if anyone ever does it, it would make me very, very happy.
